...boat, container, club, train, net, etc.

Eight students from the Ruhrakademie shed light on global phenomena and omnipresent networks. The individual works, partly documentary, partly subjective narrative, fit together like puzzle pieces to form a complex overall picture.

The world of goods and consumption is thematised in several series. We travel to Vietnam and see markets with the same cheap articles present on all continents. In Germany, container terminals herald international trade routes. The rubbish that remains at the end, as another photo series shows, is an equally global phenomenon.

On the one hand, the students use photography to make different aspects of globality visible. On the other hand, they direct their gaze to the medium itself. The tools, the distribution, the reception and the omnipresence of photography in the age of digital modernity make photography the global medium par excellence. The series that deal with the mobile phone and its use form a special thematic focus of this exhibition.
