Artist Talk with Yoi Kawakubo (in English)

During a visit to Fukushima Prefecture after the great earthquake in Tohoku in north-eastern Japan, Yoi Kawakubo buried silver halide films in the radioactively contaminated evacuation zone. The artist retrieved the films after a few months and printed them in an enlarged format. Instead of blocking light by burying the films - as opposed to photography's original method of showing its image through light - Kawakubo transformed radioactive radiation, invisible to the naked eye, into a visible form. At the Artist Talk, Kawakubo presents his work in more detail.

Yoi Kawakubo (*1979 in Toledo), lives and works in London and Tokyo.
