13 women from Borsigplatz tell their stories / Göç. Borsigplatz'da yaşayan 13 kadının dilinden

Nuriye Akdağ, Satı Avcı, Güzide Bozbaş Saniye Çekirdekçi, Güler Dağ, Nazende Doğan, Ayşe Gül, Türkan Gül, Zübeyde Kafadar, Jale Kırdök, Ayten Özmen, Feride Özden and Nejla Sefünc - these are the protagonists of the exhibition "Ankommen. 13 women from Borsigplatz tell their stories". They came to Germany in the 1970s and have lived around Borsigplatz in Dortmund ever since.

The achievements of the male immigrants among the so-called guest workers were widely recognised on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the German-Turkish recruitment agreement in 2021. The social contribution of women, on the other hand, has been little recognised.

With portraits by photographer Leopold Achilles and private photos, the exhibition focuses on 13 women of this generation of immigrants. They devoted their time to the family, the household, looking after the children. Their life between two cultures became normality. The portrayed women share their memories of arriving and living in Dortmund's Nordstadt with the audience - in sound bites from conversations in their mother tongue that young people had with the women at the Concordia neighbourhood centre. While first-hand accounts are usually reserved for one's own community, the exhibition in StadtRAUM MKK now makes these personal testimonies accessible to anyone interested.

Photographer: Leopold Achilles

The exhibition is a cooperation between Planerladen gGmbH and the Museum of Art and Cultural History.
