As part of the photo project "Don't we know each other?", a cooperation with the Dortmund Adult Education Centre was initiated for the first time. In several courses, the global was to be made tangible in the local. Finally approaching each other again and seeking new encounters. Portrait photography in particular was the focus of the courses. The resulting works were independently curated for the joint exhibition in a follow-up course.
In addition to the theoretical introduction to what makes a good photo portrait, in terms of photographic technique and image composition, the project was also about how to gain access to the people we are facing. It is the mental engagement with the person on the other side of the camera. The term "change of perspective" is not only used in photography. What connects us? What makes us different?
The path to a good portrait requires patience from both sides. This process, from the first contact, to the preparation, to getting to know each other and taking photographs, was experienced by all participants of the project.
Participants: Participants of the VHS photography courses and members of Fotokunst Dortmund e.V.
