POINT OF...

Venue Kulturort Depot, Immermannstraße 29, Dortmund

How can the African continent be described and made visible today? A continent that is everywhere and nowhere at the same time? The exhibition "POINT OF..." is dedicated to this question, detached from traditional patterns of representation, photographic conventions and Western-influenced visual habits.

To this end, the two curators Marie Köhler and Cate Lartey have created a space in which the works of seven international photographers can be seen.

As an exhibition and discussion space, "POINT OF..." encourages the audience to discover new perspectives, forms and stories. The exhibition does not present any conclusive answers to the question about an extremely diverse continent, but sees itself as a process that thrives on shared exchange.

"POINT OF..." shows positions of artists who do not present themselves to society in a single linear framework.

Through the arts, a sense of humour can be discovered, anger can be felt and stories can be looked at anew. Let's break down the global dominance of the North and create a new visibility for multidiverse perspectives.

Photographers: Zainab Abelque, Bènedikta Bibuku, Calvin Hein, Puleng Mongale, Kevin Kwabia, Naafia Naahemaa, Meklit Fekadu Tsige

The exhibition design was realised in close cooperation with the curators by a team of scenography students from the MA programme "Scenography and Communication" of the Department of Design at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Dortmund.
